Personal Philosophy of Education: The path of education is to me a beautiful encounter to a diverse wealth of knowledge; from the time you begin your academic experience to the time we grow old and see the fruit of our labor. As I was growing up I did not picture myself as an educator. When I was eight years old I fell in love with music, later I fell in love with my catholic faith, then when I wore braces I though I wanted to be a dentist, when I wore glasses I thought I wanted to be an ophthalmologist. I have pictured myself in many fields, and I have had the opportunity to learn from many great teachers, in many different countries, and of many nationalities. Above all life experiences, my parents have had a great influence in my love for teaching. My parents are to me the best example of great teachers because they teach others not because they get paid, but because of their great love to help others. Being the oldest of four children, I began my teaching journey at a young age. Later, I was a guitar teacher, in college I was a French, Accounting, and Statistics tutor. Currently, I thank God because he granted me the grace to find my life vocation in teaching, even if it was not very clear to me at an early age. After high school, I began my exchange year in Belgium because the only thing in my mind was traveling and learning French. Personally, I love to help students treasure and become more meticulous in the value of their academic work. As a teacher I am very strict and disciplined with myself. When I wake up, I ask God in prayer to grant me the enthusiasm, perseverance, and patience needed. I compare this experience to that of a cultivator who carefully plows and prepares his land for a good plantation. As teachers, we don’t get to cultivate our crops but we get to prepare our students to give much fruit and persevere in whatever their life mission will be.
Personal Philosophy of Teaching with Technology: 21st century students require greater personal latitudes and attitudes in constructing knowledge. I believe that technology is a bridge that allows for greater language and culture immersion in the foreign language classroom. As an educator, I find ways to engage my students to create with language. Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) allows me to give students the opportunity to use familiar technology as a bridge to connect them with the target language and culture. I allow digital natives to use creativity in a familiar setting to enhance target language output, and spark student curiosity. I believe in giving students a choice in personalizing a learning path through the use of digital platforms that allow for authentic intercultural experiences. I also intend to focus my teaching on project based learning that allows for the use of technology and promotes a student centered classroom environment. The best way to differentiate instruction is to personalize it. I am a facilitator that finds the best way to personalize instruction through the use of technology in a way to find closure to the learning gap that exists in the contemporary foreign language classroom.
